We aim to host a few educational events each year. For our spring event, we held a Home Espresso Class. As part of our mission to have excellent coffee, customer service, and education, we love to host events that are educational, while also being a casual opportunity to interact with our customers!
Dialing In Espresso
This event was centered around the process of dialing-in home espresso machines. We specifically practiced on the Breville Barista Touch Impress and Breville Bambino Plus. These two machines are some of our favorite recommendations for at-home use, depending on your needs and budget.
The Bambino Plus is a smaller machine at a much lower price point, but it does not have a built-in grinder. While you may save money on the espresso machine, a grinder is an additional expense. For that reason, we love the Barista Touch Impress. It has a built-in precision conical burr grinder. The Barista Touch Impress also has a screen with a simple user interface, making it helpful for beginners. It walks you through the brewing and cleaning process, so you don’t miss any important steps. Both systems are fantastic options for the aspiring home barista!
During the Home Espresso Class, our Head Barista Abigail Phillips and Roaster Nicholas Hanna taught the participants how to adjust grind size, tamp, weight and time the shot, troubleshoot any errors, and clean their machine. All of these steps are vital to understanding how to brew excellent espresso. After spending some time in discussion, participants got to practice for themselves while we answered any questions. We also created a helpful guide booklet that walks through the entire process from start to finish, so the participants could reference the booklet if they forgot any details.

First Event at our Homewood Cafe!
This event was smaller, with tickets capped at 15 participants. We wanted everyone to have a chance to practice and knew that would not be possible if the event was too big. Because of the small class size, this was the perfect event to host at our newest cafe in Homewood!
This cafe opened in Summer 2024. It is located within The Edge, a family-oriented entertainment center with many fantastic restaurants, an outdoor seating space, a clothing store and yoga fitness studio. We loved using our newest cafe to host this event because of its large windows and bright atmosphere. The long countertop made it easy for everyone to sit around the two espresso machines to watch. It is a narrow space, so it is not always ideal for larger events, but it was the perfect space for an event this size!
